Recently I shared some baby shower ideas with you, and I wanted to show you the final piece to this creative puzzle. I created a keepsake album of the baby shower with a collection of paper t-shirts decorated by our guests and photos from the shower. It was a labor of love, but something I am so happy to provide for my friend who would never have done this for herself. A scrapbook project like this does take some planning, and along the way I was reminded of a few things that made this process a little easier.

As you’re planning a baby shower, remember to save items for your album – a clean copy of your baby shower invitation and in this case blank paper t-shirts that everyone received in their invitations.

Save items from the shower itself that will add to your album. I saved game cards from our Baby Jeopardy game played at the shower. It was fun to see what guests wrote as their answers, and I ended up featuring the cards of the two game winners in the album. I also recreated the circle title featured on the game board in the album itself using our 1.25″ circle printable labels. Printed labels work great throughout the album for someone like me with inconsistent hand writing!

Organize your photos before you start your album. I tossed photos that were not clear, were duplicates or didn’t fit into a page theme. Then I laid my photos out, along with the other items I wanted to include, in the order I wanted to present them in the album.

Before you begin, bring out all your scrapbook supplies. My guillotine trimmer, Zots adhesive and double stick tape were used throughout. I also grabbed decorative papers, stickers and other accents to have on hand. Seeing them as I was creating the album allowed me to design as I went.

It can be intimidating to fill these blank white pages, but with the right supplies and commitment to the process you’re sure to create something very special.

Many of you are much like me – you love being creative any chance you get, but finding that time can often be challenging between work, home, errands and well…life! We kept this predicament in mind when planning our highly requested scrapbooking class.

At our Girl’s Night Out: Scrapbooking the PS Way (Thursday, September 16, from 7-9pm), we’d like to provide all you busy, artistic (and yes, those who think you’re not artistic) crafters the opportunity to treat yourself to a creative evening out. Knowing how busy your life can be, we’ll be teaching you fast, easy and lovely ways to build timeless scrapbook pages to last a lifetime.

So, don’t wait till summer is gone for a creative vacation for yourself – sign up today! Better yet, bring a friend and enjoy some time together catching up…as PS founder, Sue Lindstrom would say, “Ain’t life grand!”

Grab your digital camera and print those pictures you’ve been meaning to get to – bring them (or copies) along to create your scrapbook page layouts. In this sample, we printed one page of wallet size photos and used the perforator tool to add great edging. You’ll love learning about some of our favorite tools and techniques like the perforator, the 510 Xyron Machine, and those fun water color pencils I blogged about earlier this week (check it out).

Seats are selling fast, and if by chance your local store is sold out, ask them if they’ll be running this class again or about private party opportunities. Cheers…and here’s to finding time to Doing Something Creative Every Day!

We’re very protective of our bone folders around here. So protective, many of us refuse to even lend one to a friend for fear we may never see our much-loved crafting tool again. And for good reason: a bone folder forms to the user’s hand over time, remembering your index fingers and palm after years of loving use. So, not unlike a great pair of blue jeans or your favorite Birkenstocks… yours has a “hand blueprint” and fits only you the best.

So what’s all the fuss about bone folders? Simply put, this basic craft tool is the “multi-tasker” of tools. It does it ALL. Bone folders are ideal for making cards with great folds, invitations with perfect smoothed liners, stationery with clean creases, scrap booking scores for recessing photos, and virtually anything in the realm of bookbinding. A bone folder makes anything you create look more professional. Spend some time around our demo table or at one of our workshops, and you’ll be a bone folder expert in short order!

There are two types of bone folders:

1. The old tried-and-true “basic” bone folder (traditionally made of animal bone –the way old fashioned bookbinders have been for using them for centuries) has two ends with specific purposes. One end is narrowed to a softer point, which makes them great for deep scoring of heavy-weight paper and indenting for marking on book board. The tip can be sanded to the desired roundness depending on the project.

2. The second version is the newer Teflon folder. Teflon bone folders are more flexible than regular bone folders and won’t leave a sheen or scuff paper or book cloth. The great thing about the Teflon finish: glue will not adhere to it.
