The handmade book

handmade bookDuring a summer course in college I had the good fortune of getting to make my first book. From that point on, I was hooked! There are few things as satisfying as learning an artisan skill, and using it to create one of a kind projects. I find handmade books like handmade furniture, stained glass or painting, still offers the reward of completion, a feeling that is void in today’s electronic projects.

Thursday’s Handmade Journal Workshop will introduce you to the satisfaction of bookmaking. We’ve taken away the tedious cutting tasks, allowing you to focus on construction, and leaving you with basic instruction that will guide you through future DIY book projects. Register online to reserve a seat at your local store.

Trust me when I say, this will be the beginning of very long and rewarding relationship with bookmaking!

    Hello fellow bookbinding lovers!

We do still have seats available in Brookline, MA! Cambridge is sold out, but I believe they are slating a second class soon.

Sorry for the short notice – we find that many of our current class customers like to get a friendly reminder tap the week of current popular classes so they don’t forget what is coming up. But, I promise to give you the reminder a bit earlier next time.

The good news is that we do repeat these bookbinding classes often. Also, if you have 4-6 friends that you’d like to have join you – we can create a private party class just for you!! Please call your local store to be added to their “please notify” workshop list they keep on hand, or book your private party.

Other bookbinding related offerings are: The Handmade Frame class on April 28 (perfect for Mom, Dad or Grad gifts!) seats are still available in most areas – and you can register online. Mark your calendar for The Handmade Album class (not online just yet) which will be coming up on May 21, using the 6×8 Italian text books. Both of these classes provide similar artisan skills found in bookbinding.

Please visit the website often for a list of classes and dates currently being offered.
    Cheers,
    Linda

    Beautiful book!

  • Robyn says:

May I suggest a waiting list? I just got this e-mail and the class is tomorrow and it is sold out at my store. So sad…

  • Mary says:

OH! I am so disappointed – it’s already sold out at all the stores in northern CA. Why did the notice come out so late?? I hope you are planning more of these workshops. I’ve been asking and asking for this very class! Please, oh please…

We are so excited to hear how much you like this bookbinding class!
Not to fret, many stores across the country have heard your plea and have slated a repeat class.

The following list of store locations have already slated their encore for bookbinding on Saturday, 4/16. Call today to book a seat and to hear what times they are running this class:

    WEST:
San Fran area: Fillmore Street and Berkeley
NO CAL: Santana Row & Palo ALto
    SO CAL: Carlsbad

    EAST:
    Georgetown, DC
    Reston, VA

    SOUTH:
    Austin, TX

If you don’t see your local Paper Source store on the list, simply call them to be put on a wait list – you will be the first one called for the “repeat” Bookbinding class. Most stores will be running this again in May was well, so let me know which area you are from and I’ll give them a nudge. But, definitely call to register/wait-list early!

    Cheers,
    Linda

There have been no recent entries, I notice, but is anyone still doing book binding classes in Massachusetts. I’m in Great Barrington (Stockbridge, Lee, Pittsfield area).
    Please advise.
    Thanks.
