How-to: Crafty No-Carve Pumpkins

The traditional jack-o-lantern is always in style, but seeing as our slogan is “Do Something Creative Every Day”, we can’t help but try new ways of getting festive.

Here are a few of our favorite no-carve pumpkins. Bonus? These executions don’t require cutting or creating a big mess to clean up (which also makes these gorgeous gourds a great craft for family members who may be too little for carving knives!)

Before starting any of these projects, be sure to first print this How-To PDF, and then take a clean, damp cloth to the pumpkin or gourd of your choice to make sure you start with a debris-free canvas.

Idea #1: Chalkboard Pumpkin

Materials

Chalkboard Paint

Poly Brush

White Chalk Ink Marker

Instructions

Using a poly brush, paint a thin, even coat of chalkboard paint on your pumpkin and allow to dry. (Please note it is very important to allow paint to dry completely before adding another coat.)

Once first coat is dry, paint a second coat.

Allow to dry.

Use the white chalk ink marker to draw your desired design and admire your crafty work!

Idea #2: Washi Tape Pumpkin

Materials

Black and White Chevron Washi Tape

Black Polka Dots Washi Tape

Orange Stripes Washi Tape

Instructions

Apply washi tape to pumpkin in long strips, using the pumpkins natural lines as a guide. So easy, no mess!

Idea #3: Glittered Pumpkin

Materials

PVA Glue

Poly Brush

Glitter

Instructions

Work over a sheet of paper or paper plate to catch excess glitter.

Using a poly brush, paint a thin, even coat of PVA glue onto a small area of the pumpkin.

Sprinkle with glitter. Choosing several glitters in a similar hue can create sophistication and depth, while solid glitter colors create party pop!

Continue applying PVA glue and glitter until the entire pumpkin is covered.

Let your pumpkin dry.

Show off your pumpkin’s glittery makeover!

You may find that mixing the glitter into the glue (until it looks like a glittery paste) before painting it on is not only a bit faster, but also, the glue encases the glitter within it, reducing the amount of glitter that brushes off after it has dried.

A couple of coats of acrylic spray will seal your peculiar pumpkins and make them porch-ready. We’re willing to bet they’re too pretty for neighborhood ghouls to smash!
